Job Title: Administrative Assistant 1 (AA1) 

Location: Yakima, WA – This position is Full-Time/Permanent/Flexible/Hybrid. 

Closes: Monday, August 11th, 2025

Salary:  $3,495 - $4,653 Monthly. 


DUAL LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: To be eligible for this position, you must pass a DCYF Spanish language certification test within your first 6 months of employment. There is an additional 5% assignment pay for dual language based on the successful completion of the Language Certification Test.

The Opportunity:

As an Administrative Assistant 1, you will provide a wide variety of complex secretarial duties for a unit of child care licensing staff, including the licensing supervisor. This includes independently planning, organizing, and prioritizing workloads, providing secretarial services and support to supervisors and staff, and maintaining filing systems, databases, tracking logs, and computer programs. You will also answer the main telephone, act as a receptionist, and exercise independent judgment in accomplishing assignments and resolving problems. Additionally, you may develop new work methods or modify current methods to include procedures, strategies or unusual problems.


This position supports an area that is composed of a significant population of clients that primarily speak a language other than English and may have limited English proficiency. In keeping with the mission of DCYF, this position will serve as a point of contact within the work unit/program area to provide dual language assistance to clients that have limited English proficiency. This position has an obligation to provide clients with oral and/or written interpreting and translation services, including interviewing, reviewing, documenting and obtaining statements from clients with limited English proficiency. 

 

Some of what you'll do:

  • Schedule meetings, prioritize assigned correspondence, and type reports for licensors. 
  • Process all incoming applications for all Child Care Centers, School Age Programs, and Family Child Care Homes.
  • Initiate and complete all cyclical work for Child Care Centers, School Age Programs, and Family Child Care Homes.
  • Receive, record, process, and transmit licensing fees to State Office of Financial Management (OFM) for Family Child Care Homes, Child Care Centers, and School Age Programs.
  • Complete the Provider File Action Requests and send to the Provider File Unit to request SSPS number, changes, or updates.
  • Create and maintain licensing information for all licensed Family Child Care Homes, Child Care Centers, and School Age Programs in FamLink/WA Compass.
  • Facilitate the archiving of licensing files as needed for the DCYF office.
  • Clarify the licensing application process with child care centers and/or school-age directors, family home providers, community partners, and the general public.


Required Qualification(s):

  • One (1) year of increasingly responsible office experience requiring keyboarding or typing. 

OR

  • Equivalent education/experience totaling one (1) year of increasingly responsible office experience requiring keyboarding or typing.

  • Ability to efficiently distribute and sort documents within standard time frames.
