Location: Remote, UK

ABOUT

Our client specialises in the design and installation of district heating networks. They work closely with customers to design and deliver full turnkey solutions across all aspects of district heating networks.

This includes working on projects across.

  • Energy production
  • Energy distribution
  • Energy monitoring interfaces

They take a consultant led approach, focused on designing higher value solutions for customers that maximise energy efficiency and meet customers specific energy objectives.

This is supported by their experienced in-house delivery team, whose unrivalled attention to detail and expert levels of workmanship ensure projects are delivered exactly as designed and in an efficient manner.

District heating networks provide a low carbon solution for heating buildings and are a key technology to achieve Carbon Net Zero targets. The market is therefore expected to grow considerably over the coming years.

THE JOB ROLE

The design engineer will play a critical role in the successful conception, execution and technical management of our district heating projects. Primary responsibility will be to design and specify system materials and equipment, ensuring accuracy and adhering to performance criteria, safety standards and budgetary constraints. The engineer will be responsible for system design from concept stage, through construction and ultimately to handover and operation gaining experience of the complete project lifecycle.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conceptualisation:
  • Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Generate creative design concepts and solutions based on technical specifications and client requirements.
Engineering Design:
  • Utilise CAD software (such as AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar tools) to create detailed 2D and 3D designs for heat generation, distribution and interface systems
Material and Equipment Selection and Analysis:
  • Evaluate materials for performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Perform stress analysis and other engineering calculations to ensure design integrity.
Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams:
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical and civil engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with pre-fabrication teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet the required quality and safety standards.
Documentation:
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, technical submittals, specifications, and reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of design iterations and changes.
Testing and Validation:
  • Coordinate and conduct testing and validation of systems to ensure they meet design specifications.
  • Analyse test data and make design modifications as necessary.
Project Management:
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed within budget and on schedule.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress to stakeholders.

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services

 

  • Related Qualification.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstratable experience in Design Engineer Role.
  • Direct experience in design/ delivery of building services projects including piping systems
  • Strong understanding of engineering principals and materials.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with relevant external organisations.
  • High standards of performance and service delivery, contributing to the success of the business.
  • District Heating Experience
  • Experience of civil works design

 

Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD Software (2D and 3D)
  • Advanced ability in Microsoft 365 programs.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication/ interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Team player with a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Good presentation skills.
