The Role

We are seeking a seasoned, strategic Director of Marketing (USA/Remote) to lead and scale our marketing function. This is a high-visibility role, ideal for a marketing leader who thrives in an innovative, fast-paced environment and is passionate about helping deep tech companies shape markets and influence policy and industry thought.

This person will own AURA’s brand voice, external messaging, and overall marketing strategy across digital, content, PR, and go-to-market activities. Key Responsibilities

  • Brand & Positioning Strategy: Define and maintain a differentiated and consistent brand voice across channels. Craft messaging frameworks that resonate with government, commercial, and investor audiences.
  • Thought Leadership & Content Strategy: Build and execute strategies to establish AURA’s leaders and technologies as authoritative voices in national security and emerging technology spaces.
  • Public Relations & Media: Cultivate relationships with key media outlets, develop press releases, and proactively manage earned media opportunities.
  • Social & Digital Marketing: Oversee and optimize content across social channels (LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.), email, and web to drive engagement and awareness.
  • Go-to-Market Support: Collaborate with technical and business leads to support product launches, demos, customer messaging, and market education campaigns.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay ahead of industry trends, competitor positioning, and evolving narratives in the national security and deep tech landscapes.
  • Team Collaboration: Lead marketing operations and work alongside our Creative Director to execute campaigns with high visual and editorial quality.

Required Qualifications and Education

  • 7+ years of marketing experience, with at least 3 years focused on deep tech, defense tech, cybersecurity, or other highly technical sectors
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of experience (must have a demonstrated track record)
  • Proven ability to develop and implement brand positioning, messaging architectures, and executive visibility strategies
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience translating complex technologies into compelling, plain-language narratives
  • Experience managing external agencies and media relationships
  • Track record of building marketing systems and growing influence in early-stage or growth-stage companies
  • Passion for national security, technology, and market-making storytelling

Preferred

  • Master's in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Prior experience marketing to government, defense, or critical infrastructure stakeholders
  • Familiarity with dual-use tech commercialization, or GTM strategies for advanced R&D products
  • Strong network in tech media, policy circles, or innovation hubs
