POSITION DESCRIPTION  

 

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Environmental Database Administrator to oversee and manage large-scale environmental databases, with a focus on data quality, transformation, and compliance. The ideal candidate has over 10 years of direct experience with environmental data management software (such as Locus EIM, EQuIS, and/or EnviroData) and advanced proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio. The role requires deep understanding of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 4 level laboratory data and the regulatory requirements for data submissions to federal and state databases.

 

This full-time role can work remotely or can sit in one of HGL’s regional offices.


Responsibilities/Duties

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Serve as the technical lead for the ingestion, transformation, and management of complex environmental datasets.
  • Perform advanced data processing and automation using SQL Server, Access, Power Query, and/or Python.
  • Configure and maintain HGL’s environmental database system, hosted in Locus EIM, for multiple project sites.
  • Interpret, format, and process laboratory Electronic Data Submissions (EDDs) from Tier 1 (EPA Regional Labs), Tier 2 (EPA CLP Labs), and Tier 4 (Subcontracted Private Labs).
  • Oversee QA/QC protocols for data loading, transformation, and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit data deliverables to regulatory databases, including, but not limited to, EPA (EQuIS/Scribe), Navy (NIRIS), California (GeoTracker), and Air Force (ERPIMS).
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of data and support compliance with all client and regulatory requirements.

 

Required Skills

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • 10+ years of experience in environmental data management or database administration.
  • Expert-level proficiency in one or more environmental data systems such as Locus EIM (preferred), EQuIS, or EnviroData.
  • Advanced skills in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and writing complex SQL scripts.
  • Strong experience with laboratory EDD formats and processing requirements.
  • Proven track record of preparing and submitting EDDs to federal and state environmental data systems, and must have prior experience with ERPIMS.
  • Experience managing datasets from CERCLA, RCRA, UST, or other environmental programs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.

 

Preferred Skills

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Data Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, or related technical field.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-level data integration and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, R, or PowerShell).
  • Experience mentoring junior data managers and establishing SOPs for data workflows.
  • Experience with data visualization or dashboard tools is a plus.

The salary range for this position ranges from $91,568 - $141,930. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
